Back in late sixties, was farming had a half dozen Farmalls, 2 Case, 1 Deere, 1 Perkins, 4 Chevy trucks and an Olds car. Had 3 kinds of oil on hand, employees were never able to keep it straight. I switched every thing to to 30 summer and 20 winter, what was then called series 3 oil or a detergent oil developed especially for diesel engines. Later I changed to a 15-40 version of the same oil. With 15 engines on the go I didn't want mistakes. The move I made was definately NOT A MISTAKE. I went 10,000 hours on all but one of diesels before rebuilds. I was getting 2-300,000 miles on Chevy 350s. Got 400,000 miles on a 6.2 diesel pickup, frame rusted through, neighbour has the 6.2 in his 4x4. My current Super A and 130 have been using it for years. Buick LeSabre has 300,000 miles and acts like its just nicely broken in.
