Scott,you could have a chiped tooth this is very common on the A's and Cubs,mine has a tip off the gear that works first and reverse,been that way for years.It's a little noisey but not a grinding sound.Just lift the top off the gear box,jack one wheel up and spin it.You'll be able to see the problem most likely.Put it in the gear you want to listen to and pull the top striaght up.Good luck!!!
