Tom, you didn't mention if you had a threaded hole in the end of your key, but if you do, you can thread a long bolt into that hole with that bolt going through a piece of flat iron. Then you might be able to pound out the key backwards. I've always found my wheels to be rusted firmly on the axles, thus giving great trouble. A lot of heat and some patience could be of great help.
