I am one of these guys who never owned an 06 series tractor. I have had the D282 engine in two tractors though a 560D and 656D. Some people fault this engine, not me, I think they thought they were so busy they couldn't wait for glow plugs. I will quote two extreems on this engine. My 656 turned its rated hp always and went 10,000 to first engine rebuild. averaged 1.2 Canadian gal. of fuel per hour for the hours on clock. My 560 was purposely turned up on hp and turned 95-100 hp always It had a set of pistons and sleeves at 7500 hours and at 11000 hours two of those pistons landed in middle of barn yard. This happened on silo blower while changing wagons. Should have taken time to throttle it down. The 560 used 1.75 gal of fuel per hour. Both these tractors were quite efficient both on parts and fuel. You could use them on lighter work and they would respond on fuel consumption. I believe the 706 will do the same for you. I my opinion 56 series was the ultimate in IH design, it was down hill from there.
