I have 3 tractors that use generators. In 6 years two of the generators "failed" and I had to have them repaired, but it was no problem, there is a decent auto/electric specialist in our area and he fixes generators up for all us antique tractor people--and he is reasonable too. While it's true generators don't charge as good as alternators, a generator and regulator in good shape will keep your battery charged up up quite well if you don't run your tractor at low rpm too much. Most real restorers keep the generator on their tractors as alternators are the first thing critics look for on restored tractors. There's usually a good auto/electric shop in most areas(not in cities sometimes--tough) that will fix generators and be reasonable about it.
