If the engine block and head water passages are clean, and the radiator is clean and in good condition it will not overheat on the hottest day. Even if they are not completely clean, you will still have to work it really hard to have a problem. You will hear it gurgle when you shut it off and that is normal. You also need to keep a close check on the coolant level especially if it is not a pressurized system, as they tend to lose some coolant due to expansion and evaporation.
