Steven has the best explanation. I think a M&W kit installed in a Farmall should not be called a live PTO the lever really is a "ground motion controller" it really doesn't have any effect on the PTO. Seems to me Massey Harris had a similiar "hand clutch" that stopped tractor but didn't effect gear change or PTO.
