It depends on how badly the guides ar worn and how much wear is on the valve it's self. I would recomend replacing the guides over knurling. I worked in an automotive machine shop for 3 years, and know that replacing the guides lasts a lot longer providing that the valves them selves aren't worn or galded. If the price for the new guides are too much, you might think about bronze wall inserts or even drilling and driving a new 1/2 guide inside the old one. i've found on most tractor heads, that the O.D. of the guide is big enough that you can drill it out and use a replacement guide inside it. Then all you have to do is cut the replacement guide to the correct length and your good to go. Any reputable machine shop could do this for you. It wouldn't be cost effective to buy the parts and do it your self. One plus for putting an insert inside the old guide is, if the guide goes into a water jacket, you don't have to worry about disterbing the old guide and taking a chance on a leak between the guide and the head. I've seen that happen a few times after someone replaced the guides. Good luck with your project. Andy
