I don't think it can get into carb, as the intake ports are separate inside from the exhaust, but...the trash could get into the cylinders. If it is just some small scale it may just blow out when you start it, but if there are large chunks of metal there might be a danger of harming internal engine parts. You will have to make a judgement call on what you think went in.
