I removed the cap this morning. I turned the fan blade by hand, thus turning the flywheel, moving the cylinder etc... to watch the rotor turn and find TDC for #1 cylinder. I beleive it's working fine. But a good thought. Need to cover all of the bases. Timing seems to be correct. Rotor is pointing to #1 wire on cap, and TDC is #1 cylinder. I could tell this by inserting a long copper wire into the cylinder and rotating the fan and feeling the wire slip upwards through my finger until it maxed out and just start to slip down through the fingers. Too dark with overcast skys in the shed to see the piston in the cylinder...but will double check that later today. I am thinking it is somewhere at the top of the magneto inside with a bad condensor, points, bad contacts, loose contacts. Spring inside the cap is in place and contacting the rotor.
