Yes, but I don't recommend it as a regular thing. All the gas start ignition stuff was gone off my MD when I got it and it was not running but loose. After getting it all cleaned up and ready I could not get it to start on gas (turned out to be because the timing was 180 degrees out). So I decided to give it a shot of ether, since it would crank but somewhat slowly on diesel. Took two shots of ether and it started right up and it was certainly cold, as it had not been run for a few years. I think the folks I got it from had been using it that way since it had no ignition wires.
