Are you talking main seals or main bearings? I don't know any way to determine that a crank is in great condition without pulling it out of the motor. Especially if it needs a main bearing (There are three of them in an A.)
Either way, you need to haul the motor for main bearings, or rear main seal. Front seal on the crank CAN be done without pulling the motor, but does require splitting to get the front casting away so you can pull the crank pulley. There are ways to do that on the tractor but, often, you wind up having to pull the motor to put the crank in a press to remove the pulley.
