Super C thermostat

Since IH no longer has the original style thermostat, they supply you with an automotive type thermostat and a spacer ring to take up the left over space so the original snap ring can hold it all in place.

My question is....does it matter if the spacer is above or below the thermostat?

I dont think it should matter but just in case...
