tight cub steering

i have a cub that the steering has tightened right up on, in the gearbox. i noticed that it was getting harder to turn so i checked the oil (again) and it was right up (and no water in it either) so i done some plowing now it will only turn about halfway each way and tighten right up .bad enough im scared of breaking something.
the book only shows bushings for bearings and i cant see where a nut or bolt has come loose as it looks like the worm wheel shaft just rides on a thrust washer.
just wondering what i might expect to find when i open it up. this has all happened within very few hours of use .
