Rust in the fuel tank seems like a never-ending problem but it is not. With steady use and regular cleaning most tanks will clean up in four or five tank fulls. If the gas only trickles from the tank, remove the fitting from the bottom of the tank and poke a wire up through the opening until you get good flow. You may have to do this several times before it quits plugging up. Running a tractor one hour per month may be enough to keep it clean. Even a cleaned tank will rust up with no use. The entire tractor will last better with regular use. Most old tractors with rusted up tanks sat for several years with an empty tank. Always try to keep the fuel tank mostly full. That helps. Most of my tractors sit for at least six months every winter and I get no ill effects.
