Are we really talking about the shifting lever? Assuming you really mean repair, rather than replace (always my choice), you will have to remove the tranny top. You will find the shift gate in a removeable cup on the bottom of the top. Above that is a steel hemisphere that should be welded solid to the lever. Dismantle the pin, spring, and cup washers from the lever and weld or braze the inner hemisphere back in its' original place on the lever. It must be straight. If you have all the correct original parts, you can re-assemble the lever using a proper O-ring above the outer hemisphere beneath the first cup washer to create a WATERPROOF seal. Most guys seem not to know this. George Willer
