Having built a "few" manual transmissions for Chevrolet over the years, I will pass on my method of checking bearings. I only do this with ball bearings, because rollers are a whole different world. What I do is get a can of spray carb cleaner and wash the bearing until all the lube is out of the race. Then I dry the bearing with a very little compressed air. Once it is dry and clean, I rotate it gently by hand. If I feel any kind of roughness, it's gone. Then I lube the bearing with motor oil, or gear oil to keep the surfaces from rusting before I can reassemble. Believe me they can rust over night. Be aware that just because a bearing has some hours on it, doesn't mean that it's bad. Also be aware that if you disassemble a machine, you can get tiny particles of junk in a bearing. If you spin it without cleaning it, you can feel that and cleaning it really well will remove all that junk so that you can get an accurate "feel".
