One thing I like to do when doing this overhaul is turn the gear half a turn when I replace it on the splined shaft, gives you new gear teeth to mesh with the worm gear and tightens the steering up considerably. Haas is right, it is not a press fit and should come off pretty easy once the large round headed bolt that runs through the assembly is removed.
