When you say you cut some off do you mean in the length of the felt or the thickness of the felt?I just put one in my Super C and on the thickness it stuck up over the top of the groove maybe an 1/8 of an inch. But on length it was way to long and the instructions that came with it said it might be and just to cut off the ends.
