Jason: Low on oil? All OK befor that would increase the odds that you may luck out with just cleaning everything up and poping in a new rod bearing. Why not. It's cheap and quick. How long it lasts depends on how hard you work it. Some hobby tractors do not do much anymore. Almost 20 years ago I had a backhoe throw one rod. I found a guy who had equipment to grind that crankshaft rod journal while it was still in the block. All I had to do was remove oilpan an rod cap. The bigger problem is out of round journals. That hammers any new bearings quickly. Some streaks\scraches aren't too bad if you can't hook a fingernail on them. Hooking a fingernail on a scratch is an old down and dirty way of measuring the damage.. I hope this info helps some. G.
