Lock washers are very old way of trying to lock fasteners of any kind, bolts have come a long way from fastening boards on the side of a wagon, if you will notice any highly torgued bolt/screw will not have any locking device, such as rod bolts or head bolts, its kind of a misnomer to call them lock washers, should call them loosening washers. It would take a long post to point out the examples and facts about this.
