I also have a 300U that was not charging. I bought a rebuilt generator and a new voltage regulator and it still did not charge enough to enable the battery to start the tractor. I also had the generator tested and it was good. I then put a voltage meter on the output of the voltage regulator and I had no voltage output. Went and bought a second regulator and tried that after I flashed it to the generator and guess what? It was charging! I suggest you try another regulator as they are <$20. You should check the voltage out of the regulator.
