Sounds as if the engine is from a 350, the 300 had a C169 engine. There wasn't much or any difference between carbs. on these models, so that's not really a help. You could take a look at the casting dates on the major parts other than the engine to see if they were originally from a 300U. You should see something like 7*22*A, with A indicating 1955, B 1956, etc. The 300U was made in 55-56, and the 350U in 57-58. Hope this helps.
