Chris: I have never seen the documentation on ordering new tractors of that era. I suspect both TA and Fast Hitch were options for all Farmalls gas or diesel. TA was treated much as a standard item, from 300-400 on. I have never seen a Farmall of that era without TA. Some of the utilities came without.

Fast Hitch was a different matter, Those first Fast Hitches from 300-400 through to 460-560 were also used a the drawbar for pull type implements. The problem if you did a lot of drawbar work like baling, forage harvester, etc., you got a lot of wear and hitch became very loose. I had it on 560 diesel and at 7-8 years took it off and replaced with standard M type drawbar. It was so bad I used to describe it as being same as pulling pto implements with a 4 foot chain. I didn't have any Fast Hitch implements. Used a 3 point adapter some. This removal of hitch came about when I aquired a second farm with 656 and a 504. Those tractors worked a lot better on 3 point or FH as operator had been moved ahead 15-18 inches allowing hitch more vertical movement, plus a swinging drawbar for pull type implements.

To answer your question FH was not near as common as TA. This probably varried in different geographic locations. I have seen a lot of Farmalls without Fast Hitch. Remember also farmers that had been using Farmalls in early fifties did have a lot of pull type equipment.
