Be sure you have it wired correctly. If using a Delco 10SI type alternator, be certain pin 2 is jumpered over to the BAT connection. And if you don't have pin 1 jumpered over to your ignition switch, try doing that through a resistor. Use about a 47 ohm, 2 watt resistor. Last, as the other post said, be certain you have the RPM to drive this alternator. You need about 1200 RPM on the alternator, minimum, near your idle speed. You'll want a 3:1 pulley size ratio. Go 2:1 if you can't find a small enough pulley, but don't expect it to charge until you really open up the throttle. And after all this, use a voltmeter. It should read approx 13.8 volts when charging. Don't depend on the amp meter until you know it works. Good luck.
