Moonlite, if it is coming from the TA area it could very well be the live power shaft heading out on you. To check, take the inspection cover off below the clutch area, and with a large water pump pliers grasp the large shaft entering the pressure plate, and rock it clockwise and vice versa, see what play it has. This transmits through the drve system and can create a lot of noise. More noticeable at idle though. Hope that helps. It also drives the hydraulics. Good luck.
