A 12 volt system normally puts out 13.8 volts when it is charging correctly into a good battery. You can expect a 6 volt generator to be putting out half of that - 6.9 volts. You need a slightly more accurate voltmeter than some of the general utility ones. The extra .9 volts makes a *big* difference. A meter with a .5 volt error can really mislead you. Look first at the ARM post on the generator. It should be putting out approximately this 6.9 volts. Check the field supply at the generator. I don't know exactly what voltage to look for here, but I'd expect it to be near the 6 volt level. The ARM voltage should be seen going into and out from the cutout. If this problem occurred suddenly, I'd look closely at the cutout as the culprit - if you've already eliminated a broken wire as the culprit.
