i just finished rebuilding the carb on my '52 cub. this was my first ever attempt at messing with this, so i tried to be careful with everything. i had 2 carbs, so i pieced the best of the 2, along with a rebuild kit, to get one good carb. i cleaned it with some napa carb solvent, which did a fantastic job. from the kit, i replaced the needle, float bar, washers, etc. i noticed that the new cork gasket they provided fit just right, but the old gasket had a couple things different. beside the hole where the idle tube goes through, the old gasket had another small hole, where the new gasket did not. also, the new gasket covered the curved channel that kind of lead toward the idle tube where the old gasket left this open. i am asking about these differences because upon putting the carb back on the tractor, it will run for awhile with it choked, then when i push the choke in, the tractor sputters and dies. i had adjusted the float to where the top of the float, when pushed up all the way, it flush with the bottom of the top part of the carb. is this a correct setting for the float? what could be some things to look at that would cause the tractor to die in this manner? im new to the carb business so i need some good help. thanks.
