Tim - We're mostly hills here - small but steep. The SM was fitted with a single, wide front tire. It was tough to steer when turning around in a headland and maneuvering to unload. But while actually picking it was managable. Adding power steering is not a necessity, but it certainly will make life easier on the operator. Another thought: Would recommend the 400 over the SM for it's TA and live PTO. These make it a lot easier to work thru hard spots, rough ground, etc. than with the fixed gear and ground-speed PTO of the SM.
