Ya gotta believe, Ed! I had my engine off and torn down and still couldn't see the timing mark on the flywheel. When you find it, it will look just like it does in the pictures. Follow the others--get your engine lined up with #1 at TDC, and clean up the bottom 30 degrees or so real well (more easily done with the plate off the front than through the hand hole, awkward either way), and it will show up. SInce mine was off, I masked the line and hit it with a shot of bright paint. The line is deep enough though, that you can mark it with a kid's crayon or a thin line of paint.
