I have always had trouble using a primer of similar color to the paint. I use a contrasting color so that I can more easily see what spots I missed. And it is easy to miss some spots on a tractor. I guess some could argue that if you did miss some spots it would not be as noticable with a similar color primer. If you are priming the whole tractor it doesn't matter what color primer you use, but if you are only priming spots use
similar colored primer so that is easier to cover.
