differential lock

how do you get at the retainer clip that holds the differential bull gear cages together.I want to replace the seals in the cages so they dont ruin my new brakes.the manual does not explain it very well there is a clip on the locking shaft someplace that needs to be taken out so i can slit the cages from the ring gear?? Thanks
