I would say you are missing something..most PTO shafts have a spring loaded bolt which fits into the groove on the tractor PTO. In the good old days we used to line the hole in the PTO with the hole in the shaft and literaly bolt the PTO shaft to the tractor..my guess is one of these methods will keep the shaft on the PTO....good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
