The 350D has been a dependable tractor for us. Its been on the farm 40 years. Regarding white smoke, white smoke from a diesel exhaust can indicate that the engine is running lean (too little fuel in relation to the air). Possible causes of the engine running lean are poor fuel injection pump calibration, clogged fuel filters, or dirty fuel injectors. On our 350D, we had the injection pump replaced recently because it leaked bad from side of housing, billowing white smoke and weak power. Now there is still a little white smoke (still some fine tuning to be done). You mention hills, so be careful to have the TA lever in the forward position when going down hill, otherwise you will free wheel.
