Just did a little research and it looks like the 3616 has the D-236 six-cylinder glow-plug start diesel (double check to make sure it has a D-236 before your friend buys an engine). This engine is probably commonly avalible at a good parts yard. The D-236 is found in 460 and 606 tractors. The D-282 and D-301 use the same block and should interchange. The D-282 is found in the 560, 660, early 706, and 656, and is a very common engine. Not sure what a D-301 is found in, but I think some combines used it. A whole bunch of gas engines also use this same block and will interchange, but they are real gas hogs. Hope this Helps!
