You can take that starter plunger button apart if you like. You will see a big brass wedge on the plunger assembly and 2 brass haves that it presses into. If they are corroded, you can file them to some extent. NAPA carries a new one that is basically identical to the original one. Part number is ST6 ECH. Once you install the new cables and the starter is still not turning, you can jump directly from the battery to the starter post to see if the starter switch itself is bad. I do not recommend you trying to use a screwdriver and jumping the two posts on the switch with it being so close to the gas tank. You will get sparks!
