The 1 row pickers came in 2 sizes a low drum with 16 spindles on each bar and a high drum with 20 spindles on each bar. The low drums had stanard rear axles and were reversed by moving ring gear to opposite side of pinion which required gear shift to be moved to right and special top deck to br installed. The high drums had drop axles much like MV but were gear driven while MVs are chain driven they were reversed in drop axle and no changes were required in internal gears. To change low drum to normal travel direction requires ring gear to be moved to right side of pinion and different shifter forks to fit left side of special cotton picker top deck (forks from standard deck won't work) or replacing deck with one from stanard M. The high drum can be reversed by removing drop axles and bolting wheels on like regular M. Many of the cotton pickers were dealer installed on regular tractors and the only way I know to tell if picker was facrory installed is by suffix on tractor serial number. Pickers in every condition from operational to completly stripped can easily be found in Southeastern cotton belt. I converted a dealer installed low drum on a 1940 M last year and every thing worked out real well. Hope all this rambling is of some help.
