One other consideration... when you convert to 12 volts, you don't change the starter. You keep the old 6 volt starter. Because of this, you can't crank and crank and crank on the starter - you will eventually burn the starter motor out. If the tractor doesn't start after giving it a couple of cranks - no more than 15 seconds long.. spaced no closer than a couple minutes apart... find the reason why the tractor won't start... continued cranking might cause the starter motor to burn out. It is a possiblity that the previous owner burned up the starter motor this way, hence your tractor won't crank over now. Try using a jumper cable tied directly from the battery to the starter and test if the starter motor has a problem. Be careful doing this - nasty sparks can happen. Watch for the safety of your eyes.
