battery hooked up backwards

I got a new battery for my Dad's C, and put it in wrong (neg. ground). I don't know why because I knew better. I started it about ten times this way and ran it for a total of 20-30 minutes before i realized my mistake. I know it will start this way, but what about the generator? Did I do any damage? It is showing discharge when it runs, but I don't know if it was already doing this with the old battery or not. I heard something about repolarizing a generator, will this help my situation?
