Hope you haven't pulled all your hair out yet. Had s a similar problem when I put a new clutch disc in my SMTA. I split teh tractor and overhauled the ta aand decided to put in new disc since I was there, when I put it back together it wouldn't release, was similar to yours but I could get the throwout bearing up to the fingers, but it was like the pressure plate was alrady under compression. ON the SMTA yu have to split it to get clutch disc out. Book says to put pressure plate and disk on output shaft, roll tractor together and bolt up then fasten pressure plate to flywheel. On mine Ihad replace old disc with one of the 4 button type discs. When it wouldn't release I split the tractor part way and looked it all over to make sure disc was in right and all, wiggled it aournd to make sure it wasn't cocked in the flywheel and everything was fine. Still wouldn't release so I took it to a friend's shop and split it again. Found that fingers on pressure plate were not adjusted as per the service book, but it also had a different style pressure plate than was shown. I ended up putting old clutch plate back in and putting it back together and all worked. Still not sure why the new disc didn't work or whether maybe someone changed pressure plate along the way or if maybe I had readjusted fingers on pressure plate new disc would have worked. Not sure I have helped but one main thing to check is that fingers are adjusted correctly, plate is in rht right way, and plate is not cocked slightly in flywheel bore. I used 3 believe they were 3/8 bolts to keep pressure plate under compression while putting it together. The SMTA also has live pto so it makes 2 sets of splines to line up if you try to roll the tractor together after attaching pressure plate to flywheel.

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
