Yup.. I use to pull in 2nd everywhere.. the old '44 M would spin before it would kill the engine. Second was the only way to go back then. Unfortunately, I always finished in the bottom half. After I figured out how to set the best drawbar height and length (within the rules), and more importantly, the tire pressures, I would kill the engine using second gear before I would spin the tires in all but the softer tracks. I pull in first now and generally finish in the top three. Try either gear. I had to learn the hard way. It all depends on how you have your tractor set up, I guess. I will say one thing, if this is your first pull... and if you run out of power before you run out of traction... you will be second-guessing yourself for a long time.
