For what it's worth, one of the first 12 volt conversions I did was to mid-50's S180 belonging to my wife's dad. I learned this: 1 - The electric dash gages work fine on 12 volts (they actually run on about 4 volts provided by a small dedicated regulator hung on the back of the instrument cluster). 2 - The wipers worked fine on 12 volts (they had been too SLOW on 6 volts....). 3 - The heater blower worked fine as long as the switch was at the lower speed setting. (On "hi" it blew like a men's room hand dryer, however it didn't seem to harm the motor...) 4 - The electric 2-speed axle - which shifted erratically on 6 volts - worked perfectly on 12 volts. Your truck may be different, however it might be worth experimenting running this stuff directly on 12 volts.
