56 400D Rear Light Question

Hi all,

Here's a newbie question for you... I was disassembling the lights on the 400D I'm restoring, and when I opened up the rear light I see both the regular headlamp, plus a small bulb triggered by a rotating switch on the top of the housing. The lights didn't work when I got the tractor, and I haven't been around a running Farmall with its lights on, so I suspect this is a dumb question, but what is that little bulb supposed to be lighting up? It's inside the housing, behind the mirrored surface of the head lamp...hmmm...I've got to be missing something obvious here.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I suspect I'm about to have one of those "Ooooh....well, duh" moments...
