While it is the only tractor I have in my collection I do own a WD-9. It was a gift from my wife's side of the family. If I were to buy a tractor the WD-9 would not be my first choice as I am not a diesel mechanic.
Having said that, it is a tractor I am proud of. But here is what I have learned to watch for: The head will crack (or be cracked now) if not operated according to the owner's manual. Many, many owners/operators also put as many weights on these tractors as they could because they had a lot of horsepower for that era. Because of the extra weight the pinion gear bearings (and other rear end parts) were over worked or stressed and would wear out early.
Here's a good thing; if the engine was rebuilt chances are quite good that thinner cylinder sleeves were put in (along with new pistons and rings, etc.) to make the engine the same as a Super WD-9 (350 cid instead of 335 cid) gaining about ten more horsepower on average.
In its time it was the most powerful wheeled tractor made. Good enough reason for any collection? Hoped I've helped some. It makes owning my tractor more worthwhile.
