Tim: I never worked any of the pre letter series Farmalls. When I go to shows and place my posterior in the seat of an F-12, F-14, F-20, etc., I think I didn't miss a whole lot. For those who spent many hours in seat of these tractors, what a pleasure it must have been in early 40s to take the wheel of a new letter series Farmall. Comfort, looks and reliability had arrived in 1939. In my early days I worked with W4, H, Cub, SA, SM, 300, 130 and 560D. From 300 through 560 they didn't have those sleek lines of letter series. I like to call the 300 through 560 the expermental tractors. New features such as TA, IPTO, hitches, etc. were really only perfected in 06-56 tractors. Like the guys of 25 years earlier what a pleasure it was to climb on the platform of an 06 or 56, place yourself in that seat and be able to move your feet from one side to other, changing position on a long day. In the 56 series you once again had those sleek lines Just something about letter series and 56 that was appealing. Perhaps it was the reliable trouble free hours of operation. I also had a 1066. On the 500 acre, 100 cow dairy farm; hired help did most tractor work. I always found myself lining up work so I did the 656 jobs. Two employees I had with me for many years used to joke that I took the 656 to bed with me. Man I loved that 656, 90 degree turns on 9' mower conditioner and never miss a blade of grass, corn planting, spraying, etc. Never did develop that kind of attachment for 1066.
