This will date me but there is one other problem that could cause this as we had that same thing with a 1948 Oldsmobile, new battery cables and several people checked them all over but none could find what was the problem, by axident found out that the metal end on the cable was close enough to a metal part that the curent was jumping about a .01 gap, no one could understand how it could be that it did show no burning there, had taken the cable loose several times in trying to find the problem, every reinstall of the cable it would go back on in exactly the same spot, finaly when found the cure was to bend the metal end of the cable so that there was clearance there, contact was hidden on back side of cable
