Running a six-foot long pipe or so through the square bracket behind the steering gear is an easy way to keep the engine from flopping over to the left when you split the bell housing. Clamp the pipe using the same bolts that hold the cultivators on, and block up each end of the pipe. When I split mine, I had the oil pan off and blocked up under the flat bottom of the block where the oil pan goes to keep the front end from falling over backwards. Blocking the front wheels is a must when doing this.
