I have been up to my armpits in this one. Yank off the Belt pully Assembly, BEFORE you decide on pulling the tranny cover or Shifter Lever. The whole shooting match can be seen from the large rectangular hole left by the Belt Pully Assembly. As you then work the shifter, you will be able to see the 4th/5th gear trying to do it's job. You will also be able to see a fair amount of the gears in there and what they look like. Grab the upper tranny shaft and shake it a time or to so as to check the pilot bearing and others. The inner gear surface on the 4th/5th gear may be damaged so bad you will not be able to get it in 5th. Hopefully not for your sake. That gear is 130 dollars new and darn difficult to find used in usable condition. Hope this helps, Scott
