340 rear axle housing removal

Was out discing with the 340 and the right side acted like the brake was stuck and made an awful screeching noise. I unhooked disc and limped it home. I thought it might be the outside bearing so I took off the wheel and cap and the outside bearing looks fine but there is play up and down on the axle so could be inside bearing? What would be the best way to repair? Go thru pto or remove the whole platform. Either way it looks like a big job.
