Well Randy my thought is that you will have to experiment with the timing lever. My F20 was set by the previous owner to be on time when the timing lever is all the way down in the 5:00-6:00 position or so. The manual indicates the correct position is at the 2:00. I'm quessing you just haven't found the on time spot yet. It could be anywhere. The other gents comments on firing order is also important. One other thought would be are you sure that you are getting fire to #1 when the piston is TDC on compression cycle??? You could possibly be 180 degrees out of phase. Did that on a VW engine one time. It ran like a JD until I figured out the problem.
